Dilly Bags

A dilly bag is a bag with all your eating gear in to take to camp. Keeping it together in a bag makes it simpler to transport to and from camp without any pieces going missing.

A dilly bag is usually a cloth draw-string bag, preferably made from cotton, because it breathes allowing your gear to stay dry without going mouldy!
The drawstring stops dust and bugs getting in and allows the bag to be hung up in the fresh air as well as stopping the gear inside from falling out!

Inside your dilly bag should be:

· A plate,

· a bowl,

· a cup,

· a knife, fork, dessert spoon, and teaspoon

· 2 tea towels

All the contents should be made of strong material such as metal or melamine to avoid breakage and should be CLEARLY LABELLED!!!!!

The easiest way to make a dilly bag is from a pillowcase or cotton bag from the supermarket with drawstring sewn in.

A blue metal plate, bowl and cup are available with a bag from the Scout Outdoor Centre.

Melamine plate, bowls and cups are available at Supermarkets or cheap shops such as Cheap as Chips or the Reject shop and some camping shops. They can come in a variety of colours.
